Pediatrics Student Interest Group (PedSIG)

The Keck Pediatrics Student Interest Group (PedSIG) provides medical students with early exposure to the field of pediatrics. Pediatricians have the unique privilege of taking care of their patients throughout childhood and into adolescence, witnessing and supporting many developmental milestones. Our SIG provides students with an introduction to the variety of ways in which pediatrics is practiced: in inpatient and outpatient settings, a variety of subspecialties, as well as academic and non-academic practices. In addition to inviting speakers to share their experiences during lunchtime talks, we offer the opportunity to observe pediatric practice through shadowing opportunities at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) and LAC+USC, as well as in private practice and local community settings. We also connect students with pediatrics residents through a mentorship program and host banquets to provide a space for students to meet with and learn from LAC+USC and CHLA attending pediatricians from a variety of subspecialties.
